“Realtime” counting of social media –

I felt that this flash app gives you a realistic view on just how many people are actually interacting on the internet.

Pandora –

As a personal user of Pandora I find it to be a very useful music site. Although you can’t replay a song whenever you want, or rewind and can only skip so many songs, it does act as a radio station and gives you more of a choice, you can create many different stations to chose from based on your own personal interests. When you dislike a song, it doesn’t play it and takes it into cosideration when chosing other songs for your station.

I thought Dr. Owen Smith’s presentation was very interesting. His story about how we are no longer in control of our own name was humorous in how he found an Owen Smith and he used certain coding to control what was sent to the site. His imaging project was very cool and I’d be interested in learning more about it along with seeing more of the series. It is also true that filters do not make the art. It can make the art more interesting but without the art to start from, filters would be nothing.

I was really intreaged by his presentation. I personally want to minor in Digital Art so it was nice to see who put it together and teaches within it. His background is very different than I would have ever expected. I think his tracer project was very cool. I’m pretty sure most people wouldn’t consider smashing a car to be art but the way he presented made it work.

I think it was helpful to recap what we’d gone over so far in the semester. With all the presentations you tend to mix some up as well as skip over remembering them all together. I personally question how we could create green media using computers and such technologies that require electricity and such.

It’s true when they say that editing makes the film. Without editing, transitions wouldn’t make sense, you’d have to spend so much time filming and making sure that there weren’t any continuity errors because you wouldn’t be able to find solutions to fix it. I learned in film class in highschool that the types of shots and editing tactics you use make or break the film. I personally was bad at deciding which shots would show what I wanted. I feel it’s important that editors be recognized for their work because it’s just as important as the director.

It was really interesting to watch clips from different shows through the years. A lot of them I’d never seen but you can definitely tell how television has changed over time.

I think it’s true that sound conveys more about a person than words and photographs. It allows you to judge tone to understand the true meaning behind what they’re saying.

I agree that there is no one definition of what media is. I also think it’s interesting how they returned to fresco because it was less time efficient but yet less effective.
